How to Give Yourself a Shoulder Massage
Aching necks, shoulder and headaches can really slow you down. First thing in the morning or after a long day at the office, tension can pop up at any time. Knowing how to relax yourself and get rid of the building burning feeling is a great relief.
1
Use your left hand for your right shoulder (you'll repeat using the right hand on the left shoulder). Fit your hands to the curves of your shoulders and back. Knead the muscles. Chances are you'll notice if a particular muscle is knotted up or tense.
2
When you find a particularly tense or knotted area, gently pinch and hold there. There may be a burning sensation, but this is a sign that acids and toxins that have built up in the area are now moving on.
3
After addressing hot spots, repeat several smooth and soothing strokes from the base of the neck to the skull and, using your left hand on your right shoulder, stroke from the spine to the end of the shoulder. Repeat using the right hand on your left shoulder.
4
Finish with your hands on the side of your face and glide them under your chin. Slide your hands past each other at the front of the neck, so that each hand is on the opposite shoulder. Repeat until you are fully relaxed.
Tips & Warnings
Using lotion or oil eases friction between your hands and shoulders.
